The candidacy of Sant Julià de Lòria to become the European Sports City of ACES Europe in 2023 in the category of towns with less than 25,000 inhabitants was favourable. The award will be collected on December 6 at the European Parliament headquarters by the Hon. first mayor, Mr. Josep Majoral.
ACES Europe is a non-profit association based in Brussels which annually awards prizes to the European Sports Community in accordance with the principles of responsibility and ethics.
The recognition came after the mayors and a team of technicians experienced an intense day with the visit of Lupattelli's own son and two other people to verify and analyse the candidacy presented by the Comú. The day began with an official ceremony at Casa Comuna where the mayors invited the head of the ACES delegation to sign the honour book in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Sport Silvia Riva, the Secretary of State Justo Ruiz and seven of the 10 councilors who make up the plenary session of the town hall. Subsequently, in the Sergi Mas room, the presentation of the candidacy took place, during which some promotional videos could also be viewed. Once this was completed, the three members of ACES and a team of technicians from Tourism and Sports went to the 2000 hill of Naturland to see the facilities and in the afternoon, they had the opportunity to meet the test pilot, Jeroni Fajardo who offered a small exhibition in a forest area of La Rabassa. They also went to Coll de la Gallina where former cyclist Joaquim Rodríguez was waiting for them, with whom they chatted and had the opportunity to take a photo next to the statue in his honour at the top of the port.
The day ended with the ceremony to defend the city's candidacy, which was held again at Casa Comuna with the intervention of the mayor and a series of technicians from Comú, LAUesport and Naturland.
